Queer Crystals Evolve….Live!
I have exciting news to share with you tonight from the cool confines of the studio on a sunny August afternoon.
You may remember last summer I had the opportunity to spend a week travelling in the marvellous spaceship like surrounds of the Sage Gateshead on their Summer Studios programme, where I met a multitude of incredible musicians and people. Including Cee Haines (C.H.A.I.N.E.S) who volunteered for impromptu blackboard duty and is very much a kindred spirit! I am beyond excited to share that they have now commissioned us both together to create CRYSTALQUEER, a brand new audiovisual work which will be premiered on 23rd November 2023 at Sage 2. Read all the details in poetry and prose, and book your tickets, here!
Ever since I first set foot in the Sage I’ve been obsessed with the geometry and history of the space, so making a piece which brings that evolution to life through sound and lights is a dream come true. It’s an absolute honour to collaborate with Cee on this exploration of non binary crystalline geometric joy! If you are near Gateshead in November, definitely come along and experience it, and if you’re not near Gateshead, then get yourself there by any means possible!
I can also now share with you that the amazing composer, theatremaker and singing mermaid Elischa Kaminer and I were selected to collaborate on a super competitive Creative Health Residency at Britten Pears Arts next March. I am blown away to be chosen in their most competitive year and can’t wait to share more details on this with you as it evolves. For now, you can read more here.
In other news, the piece I created at Real World Studios Experimental Audio Camp will be shared at Dolby headquarters in London on 8th September. I will be performing in the joyous explosion of sound and movement which is SMOOSH! in Weston Super Mare with Paraorchestra on Sunday 10th September.
If that’s not exciting enough, Anarres studio has witnessed its fair share of cable related chaos as we went spatial with a full 7.1 sound system! We’re going to be using this alongside some ambisonic recording magic in some very special recording sessions which I am working hard to prepare for as I write this blog. More to be revealed on this and the next evolution of Spiral Dial very soon!
I hope you all enjoy the last days of summer and sunshine and hope to see you at a show sometime soon. X
