Hello all! Here we are at the end of summer, squeezing every last drop of sunshine out of the sky…how did we get here, I ask again? Particularly baffling having spent a large fraction of the year hopping around on one leg.

I find myself in an exciting R&D phase! You might recall that back in March at SXSW Austin not only did I speak on a panel about XR, but I also met Rosie Chen, an amazing XR designer. And then I had the happy news that I am one of the few lucky recipients of ACE R&D funding to develop Witch Army, an antidote to propaganda! Fresh off the back of an amazing theatrical R&D period funded by Paraorchestra Alumni Fund.

What to do?

Obviously with the broken leg being an issue, work involving movement was not really ideal for this period. So I decided to take Witch Army fully virtual and make a VR prototype!

I’m grappling with these questions: how can we flip the script on us vs them? Do we force others out or do we invite them in? How can we create a sense of belonging and then challenge people’s perceptions by casting them out of the group? And how do raffle tickets fit into all that?

As you can imagine there has been a lot of ticket tearing and microphone bashing. We have stuck contact mics on some unfeasible places, and they’ve fallen off a fair few times too. There has been much swearing about Meta’s developer mode access policies (WHY IS IT SO HARD, META?!?)

However after initial testing we have reached the stage where we need a 3D designer on board to make our ideas happen! In particular we are interested in building a sculptural layered landscape where the depths are revealed as the plot progresses.

So if you are a 3D designer, please check out the ad on Linkedin, and if you’re not, please share the ad! You can also view the ad on the pdf file below if you’re not a LinkedIn person. If you need it in a different format, please do contact us!

We have received quite a few applications already from some amazing people, and we’re planning to shortlist candidates next week.

I also have plans for future performances in the pipeline, so more news soon on that.

Much love

Liza x
